★★★⯪☆ it's like if the hit book Never Let Me Go was in space and also had space Donald Trump and considerably more isopods i liked this a lot:) strong messaging. cool characters. fun not-aliens, which is always a plus. a little predictable at parts but a pretty unique way of doing the whole dehumanization and making a person an expendable resource thing. good movie!!! oh also i kept questioning throughout the whole film if that was robert pattinson bc i'd fully convinced myself at the start that it was someone else but. lo and behold. |

★★★★★ damn. just. damn. what a great movie "i guess it comes down to a choice. get busy livin' or get busy dyin'." i really loved this. it's poignant and funny and it's about freedom and corruption and the human condition and rocks. UGH. so good. rain as rebirth never gets old, man. water symbolism has my heart til the end of my days. "hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. and no good thing ever dies." AUGH. SO GOOD. wonderful movie. i completely understand its reputation and renown. just. yeah. goddamn. |
| 07-01-26: The Batman (2022)
★★★★★ SO FUCKING GOOD. literally this is early batman. like yes. gotham is SO beautifully grungy and gritty here and yet still in need of hope. the way it sets up his role as like clearly still dealing with the trauma of his parents' death and his focus on violence and fear and vengeance and then at the end a realization of what gotham truly needs. and he's SO detectivey. wow you can really tell this guy's the world's greatest detective. haha. anyways. the something in the way needle drops? UGHHHHHHHHH no literally genuinely AAAAH this has my SOUL like. good GOD they went off with that. it fits the mood of gotham so well and it's just perfect. also the opening monologue holy shit. over a week after watching it i still keep thinking about it. also the riddler WOULD be a twitch streamer this movie is so right about that. also bludhaven mention at the end? totally setting up dick grayson to set up jason todd to set up tim drake so we can get a series of young justice '98 movies!!! definitely! but in all seriousness this movie ROCKS dude holy shit. i really liked:D ^-_-^ ← batman |

★★★⯪☆ i liked the movie okay on its own but knowing all the amazing stuff it could have showed makes me feel like we missed out:( (i knowwww it's not a 1:1 adaptation i knowww not all of this would fit in a movie im just saying) imagine kara using red kryptonite to fight a giant dragon thing in space! or the whole discrimination mystery thing with the blues and the purples! or ruthye's whole unreliable storyteller thing! or the magical orb that transports them across the universe to an alien world with DINOSAURS!!! and kara running with comet (!!!) to the EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE to escape the mordu orb thing!!! also i feel like the color grading in this movie could've taken more inspo from the bright craziness in the comics but that was okay. lobo was a surprise but sooooo fun in this movie. clearly the reason they decided to put him in this movie is because they're gonna follow the story where he gets de-aged to eventually introduce a bunch of YOUNG JUCTICE '98 MOVIES. obviously. i liked most of the soundtrack i liked kara's development. i wish ruthye could've grappled a bit more with morality without kara there but whatever. i liked it! i thought it was fun and entertaining:) |

★⯪☆☆☆ they used to at least try to make propaganda entertaining. i saw this at mystery movie night and it was. well it was definitely something. you start off the movie mid-battle, and then go back in time to earlier in washington's life (set next to an extremely ai-looking church). most of the movie is spent getting back to the battle in which the film started. when we get back to that point, rather than, idk, subtly cluing the viewer in to the fact that we're back at that moment, they play the ENTIRE OPENING SCENE AGAIN. the soundtrack felt uninspired and derivative. upper class colonists? violins. literally any interaction with native american people? foreboding percussion. repetitive stereotypes do not a leitmotif make. "native people recognize random white man as being chosen by/protected by a deity" in order to fuel pro-christian, pro-american propaganda. the special message at the end about america's 250th birthday, a reminder that america and its founding ideals are "worth fighting for"? the ideals which drove the mass murder of native people?? and against whom are we even "fighting for america"??? this movie felt like a string of montages put in chronological order. every shot was like 2 seconds long. the filmmaking was probably not the worst i've seen. the acting was at least passable. overall it passes as a movie? but not a very good one in my opinion. (edit bc i forgot stuff) oh also other things i forgot! pawn metaphor/motif is so trite and that would be fine if it were done well but it's not. also i feel like because this is pre-rev war it doesn't even do a good job at the message it wants to portray?? idk. but yeah. |

★★★★⯪ "anyway. it's done. and that's something." not to leave a batshit insane review but i saw nicholas cage and got flashbacks to the clips of con air that play in homestuck and was disheartened about the prospects of this movie but duuuuude. i really liked it:) i liked the themes and the meta-ness and the message and it always makes a movie better to watch it with someone who loves it so incredibly much:) but yeah great experience! |

★★★⯪☆ peak cinema as they say. knowing only the memes from megamind going into this led me to have some serious misconceptions about the plot LMFAO but this was as they say pretty fire. :) edit: the day after i edited this down half a star bc i felt the 4 star rating was incongruous with other things i've rated lol. recording this here for posterity's sake! |

★★★★⯪ maybe family really is a dying bird furry, a tiny wizard cosplayer, a flying grumpy dog, a kind.of reformed evil witch, and a hatmaker... i ADORED this movie so incredibly much. it's only the second ish ghibli movie i've seen, and i continue to be in love with the way they do landscapes and colors and music and emotion. ugh this movie is FANTASTIC! it does remind me heavily of Night on the Galactic Railroad (1985) in some of the scenes too. but ugh yeah such a good movie. RIP their "castle" for all the tragedy that befell it (plane crash, destruction, re-creation, destruction again, etc.). but yeah wow. so incredibly gorgeous and resplendent. |

★★★☆☆ i liked the found footage scenes and the use of the camera in what i found to be unique ways like when it's picked up. i thought the transition of clark to "antagonist" was incredibly jarring in a perhaps unintentional manner? and i didn't love how the oppositional force was chosen. as many have said, the vibes were really cool and i think it was done quite fantastically, but the deeper meaning is imo not conveyed well -- not that meaning ought to be conveyed clearly to the point of obviousness, but yeah. idk. fire soundtrack tho. generation loss vibes ← highest compliment. |

★★★★☆ i really really liked this one. is it perfect? no, but GOD. it's beautiful. this movie is visually gorgeous -- the color grading is so vibrant omg and i love the angles and their occasional weirdness -- the soundtrack UGH it works so well. i love the ending, the circular nature of it all, how the past and present weave together. it was written! |

★★★★☆ verrryyy cool love the luhrmann style. fish scene cool elevator scene cool pool scene cool. fast forwarding was weird? not necessarily bad but extremely stylized which i guess makes sense. the ending though... i found to be extremely annoying. it could have been so good. when he opens the doors and ugh the lighting is perfect. when she pulled the trigger it should've cut then and there -- we did not need the extra like three minutes and i feel like it detracted from the emotional potency a little bit. ugh but yeah. but credits needle drop was amazingggg (RADIOHEAD!!) same with entire soundtrack. |

★★★★★ godddddd. i was looking forward to this movie and it ABSOLUTELY delivered. i think the sound design was wonderful, i think the score mixed like orchestral stuff and idk lyrical "real" music really well. ryan gosling did amazing and sandra hüller 100% did stratt's character justice, even adding onto it like with the karaoke scene (OMG THE KARAOKE SCENE???). the visuals were fantastic. the changes they did make from the book, i definitely understood the necessity (the text to speech translation, cutting out the first arc of the engine failure with the taumoeba), and i feel like they were very tasteful:) i had an amazing time watching this, the color grading etc was PHENOMENAL. overall, loved this movie. :D |

★★★⯪☆ ugh i liked this a lot. the bloodiness and body horror and cosmic-ness was so amazing and i really appreciated the buildup - there was just so much effort put into every decision and augh it really showed. the practical effects were SO cool and overall i loved the vibes. quite confusing but i really liked it. also side note but i NEED the pencil thing simon uses throughout the movie because that line weight looked magical. |
